After four years of exploring Western North Carolina, I’ve curated a list of cabins that are actually worth the money. Some I’ve stayed in myself, others are on my wishlist, but every property listed here stands out for its location, comfort, or unique features.

1. Little Mountain A-Frame – Old Fort, NC
If I had to pick one cabin I’d return to over and over again, it’s this one. The Little Mountain A-Frame is cozy, thoughtfully designed, and located in a peaceful pocket of Old Fort that feels remote but is still close to trails and town.
What makes it stand out?
- The impeccable interior details—from the wood-burning stove to the lofted bedroom
- A pet-friendly policy that made it perfect for a stay with my husband and our dog, Ollie
- It’s one of the few cabins in the NC mountains that nails both comfort and style without sacrificing access to nature.
We stayed here for our anniversary in 2023, and I already have plans to come back for a winter girls’ weekend in 2026. It’s that good.
It’s also a great place to stay if you want to be near Asheville, but not immediately in town. You can get there in about 30 minutes.
2. Edenwood Treehouse – Hendersonville, NC
If you’re looking for a romantic cabin in the North Carolina mountains, Edenwood Treehouse is a standout. Tucked into the woods near Hendersonville, this elevated stay is all about quiet, connection, and soaking up the natural surroundings.
We stayed here with our dog Ollie and loved:
- The peaceful, tucked-away setting is just minutes from town
- Large windows and natural light make the treehouse feel open and calming
- A warm, welcoming space that’s perfect for couples or solo escapes
It’s one of those places that feels like a true retreat, and yes, it’s absolutely worth the price. Plus, it’s only a short drive to numerous amazing hikes in Hendersonville.
3. Sky High Floating A-Frame – Beech Mountain, NC
This A-frame lives up to the hype, and then some. We visited the Sky High Floating A-Frame during a surprise snowstorm, which turned the whole stay into a winter wonderland. It’s one of the most magical cabins in the North Carolina mountains I’ve ever experienced.
Why it stands out:
- Elevated design with floor-to-ceiling windows
- Close to downtown Beech Mountain and the ski slopes, perfect for a winter trip
- Well-equipped with everything you need, even in snowy weather
If you’re planning a cozy cabin getaway during ski season, this one delivers on every front.
4. Fowler Creek Cabin – Cashiers, NC
Fowler Creek Cabin is a great choice for families or small groups looking for a quiet mountain getaway with room to spread out. We stayed here with my brother and sister-in-law, and it felt like our own private retreat just 10 minutes from downtown Cashiers.
Highlights include:
- A peaceful creek-side setting that’s especially great in the summer
- Spacious kitchen and deck, ideal for group meals and relaxing outside
- Dog-friendly with plenty of room to roam
This cabin is both beautiful and practical, exactly what you want for a Western NC cabin stay that works for a crowd. It’s also in Cashiers, one of my favorite places to go hiking. If you love the outdoors, this is a great place to base yourself.
5. Black Fox Cabin – Hayesville, NC
Black Fox Cabin blends modern design with rustic charm in a lesser-known corner of the North Carolina mountains. Located near Hayesville, this cabin is perfect if you’re craving quiet without the crowds.
Why it’s on my wishlist:
- Striking black exterior and wood-accented interior that feels both bold and warm
- Mountain views from the deck that look especially dreamy in fall
- Tucked-away location near hiking and lake access
If you’re looking for a more off-the-beaten-path cabin that still feels luxurious, this one’s worth bookmarking. Especially if romance is on the agenda.
6. Forest Cottage + Sauna – Fairview, NC
This cozy cottage just outside Asheville offers the rare combination of mountain seclusion and private spa vibes. Nestled in the woods of Fairview, the Forest Cottage includes its own personal sauna, making it an ideal spot to unwind after a long hike or weekend adventure.
What makes it special:
- Private outdoor sauna tucked behind the cabin
- Scandinavian-inspired interior with minimalist charm
- Close to Asheville’s food scene and nearby trailheads, while still feeling remote
It’s high on my list for a romantic cabin escape in the North Carolina mountains, especially for a winter or shoulder-season visit.
7. Kindling Falls – Franklin, NC
Kindling Falls is one of the more spacious, luxury-style stays on this list, and it’s built with groups in mind. Located near Franklin, NC, it combines upscale finishes with immersive natural surroundings, including a private trail to a waterfall.
Why I’m personally hosting a women’s retreat at this one:
- Waterfall access on the property (yes, really)
- Enough room for larger groups or families
- Thoughtful design touches and indoor-outdoor living spaces
If you’re planning a mountain retreat with friends, this is one of the most unique large-group cabins in Western North Carolina.
8. Smoky Mountain Dome – Whittier, NC
Out of all the domes I’ve stayed in, this one is hands-down the best. The Smoky Mountain Dome is perched above Whittier with sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, making it a dreamy escape for couples or close friends.
What I loved:
- Private hot tub and fire pit with killer mountain views
- Beautiful interior touches that feel both cozy and elevated
- A perfect setup for a romantic or girls’ weekend. I stayed here with my friend Abby and my dog Ollie, and we didn’t want to leave
If you’ve been curious about glamping in a dome, this is the one to book. It’s an easy drive to both Cherokee and Bryson City if you’re looking for towns to explore. There are also incredible hikes in Bryson City that are absolutely worth the drive.
9. Roamly Getaways – Brevard, NC
If you’re looking for an affordable cabin stay near Pisgah National Forest, Roamly Getaways should be on your radar. These airstream cabins are designed to maximize space and scenery without maxing out your budget.
Why it stands out:
- One of the most budget-friendly options on this list
- Located near Brevard’s trails, waterfalls, and breweries
- Clean, modern interiors with just enough space for a couple or solo traveler
For an easy weekend escape that doesn’t skimp on location, Roamly nails it.
10. Glamping Collective – Clyde, NC
Staying here feels like stepping into a postcard. The Glamping Collective is a high-end dome experience tucked into the mountains above Clyde, NC. Each dome has its own deck, private hot tub, and uninterrupted views—and yes, it’s dog-friendly.
Why I recommend it:
- We loved the on-property hiking trail that leads to an exclusive overlook
- Domes are spacious, stylish, and quiet, great for couples or small groups
- It’s close to Waynesville, one of my favorite towns in Western NC
This stay blends luxury and nature better than most and is perfect for a splurge-worthy weekend in the mountains.
11. Cozy A-Frame Cabin – Boone, NC
Classic A-frame charm meets Blue Ridge beauty in this Boone-area stay. The Cozy A-Frame Cabin delivers all the nostalgic vibes of a mountain retreat while keeping things modern and comfortable.
Why it’s wishlist-worthy:
- Iconic A-frame architecture with a woodsy, cabin-in-the-trees feel
- Located near downtown Boone and the Blue Ridge Parkway
- Ideal for a year-round escape, especially in fall or snowy winter months
If you’re dreaming of a cabin that checks the “cozy” box without feeling cramped, this one looks like a winner. Don’t forget to check out all the waterfalls near Boone if you book this stay!
12. Smoky Mountain Mangalista Cabin – Waynesville, NC
This might be the most unique cabin on the list. Set on a working farm and Hipcamp property, the Smoky Mountain Mangalista Cabin has a built-in hammock nook with panoramic views that I can’t stop thinking about.

Why I want to stay here:
- Insane views from the cabin and deck
- Located on a farm property with other cool glamping setups
- The design is minimal but intentional, and that hammock feature alone makes it stand out
This one’s at the top of my “must book soon” list—and ideal if you want a remote-feeling escape that’s still close to Waynesville.
13. Hide Inn Seek Treehouse – Highlands, NC
Tucked into the woods near Highlands, this elevated treehouse cabin offers the kind of retreat that feels straight out of a movie. It’s designed for relaxation, with a layout that makes the most of its surroundings.
Why it’s on my radar:
- Features a hot tub perched among the trees, arguably the best on this list
- Stylish, woodsy interior perfect for a romantic weekend away
- Close to downtown Highlands but totally surrounded by nature
If you’re looking for romantic cabins in the North Carolina mountains, this is one that deserves the splurge. Plus, there are tons of trails near Highlands that you can check out while you’re there!
14. Skylux – Whittier, NC
Skylux is precisely what it sounds like: a luxe cabin designed around the mountain views. With sleek architecture, expansive glass walls, and a quiet perch in the mountains above Whittier, it’s one of the most visually striking stays on this list.
Why it’s on my wishlist:
- Panoramic mountain views from nearly every room
- Clean, modern design that still feels warm and inviting
- Ideal for a special occasion stay, especially for couples
- A hot tub AND sauna
This is one of the best view cabins in the North Carolina mountains, and I can’t wait to experience it firsthand.
15. Private Waterfall Cabin – Hot Springs, NC
If privacy and nature are top of your list, this secluded cabin near Hot Springs delivers. Nestled deep in the woods, it comes with its very own private waterfall, making it a true hidden gem for nature lovers.
What makes it stand out:
- Direct access to a waterfall, you won’t have to share
- Remote feel but still close to the Appalachian Trail and Hot Springs. Don’t miss out on a hike to Max Patch if you’re visiting!

This is one of the few cabins in the NC mountains for couples that blends romance, adventure, and complete seclusion.
