North Carolina has some of the most fantastic mountain towns in all of the United States. From waterfalls to swimming holes and some of the best campgrounds I’ve ever stayed at, this state has so much to offer. Some of my favorite places to hike and explore here include Bryson City, Brevard, Highlands, Cashiers, and Hendersonville.
Asheville has to be one of my favorite towns ever, and if you love hiking with your dog, there are some incredible dog-friendly hikes in the area.
If you’re searching for a small mountain town outside of Asheville, Waynesville is an incredible option. It’s only about 30 minutes from downtown Asheville, and it offers the small mountain charm that makes Western North Carolina so special.
For quick access to the Smokies, base yourself in Cherokee, NC. If you’re looking to explore the coast, Wilmington, NC, is one of my top picks!
